2028 NEP Special Summit Issue: Call for Manuscripts
Special Issue Topic: Preparing Nurses for a Changing Planet: Innovations in Climate, Environmental, and Disaster Nursing Education
Manuscripts Accepted: December 15, 2027 – January 18, 2028
As climate change, environmental degradation, and disasters increasingly affect health outcomes worldwide, nurse educators play a critical role in preparing the future nursing workforce to respond effectively to evolving population health needs. Nursing Education Perspectives is planning a special issue focused on the integration of climate, environmental, and disaster health content across undergraduate and graduate nursing education. We are seeking manuscripts that highlight innovative, evidence-informed educational strategies that advance learner competence in these interconnected domains.
The guest editors are Audrey Snyder, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAEN, FAAN, and Tara Heagele, PhD, RN, FAAN. Dr. Snyder is dean, Dwyer School of Nursing, Widener University. Dr. Heagele is associate professor, Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing, Hunter College of the City University of New York.
Manuscripts should fit the criteria for the journal’s Feature Articles, Research Briefs, or Innovation Center and address educational approaches related to climate, environmental, and disaster health nursing education, including but not limited to:
• Integration of climate and environmental health content into nursing curricula
• Curricular approaches to integrating disaster nursing competencies across mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery phases
• Crisis standards of care education
• Global health and humanitarian nursing pedagogy
• Competency-based approaches to planetary health and disaster nursing education
• Simulation, immersive learning, and interprofessional education strategies
• Faculty development for teaching climate/environmental/disaster health content
• Curricular mapping and program evaluation related to planetary health and disaster nursing competencies
• Policy, accreditation, and regulatory drivers shaping curriculum integration
• Student outcomes associated with climate/environmental/disaster health educational interventions
• Innovative experiential learning, service learning, or community-engaged educational models
• Ethical, equity, and justice considerations in climate and disaster nursing education
• Integration of well-being resources and strategies related to disaster nursing education
• Creative teaching strategies for integration of nursing roles before, during and after disasters
