National League for Nursing Makes Annual Research Grants Promoting Nursing Education Scholarship

Awards Will Be Presented at 2019 NLN Education Summit
September 26–28
Washington, DC — The National League for Nursing continues awarding competitive scholarly research grants for another year, under the banner of the NLN/Chamberlain University College of Nursing Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education. Funding is provided by the NLN and through endowments and donations to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education. The formal presentation will take place during the 2019 NLN Education Summit on Friday, September 27, following the CEO Address.

NLN Foundation Chair Cole Edmonson, DNP, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, FAONL, FAAN, chief clinical officer at AMN Healthcare, said, "The NLN Foundation is dedicated to supporting excellence in nursing education through evidence-based, innovative scientific inquiry. Research grants and dissertation awards are an excellent strategy for facilitating the scholarly pursuits of those who choose doctoral education."

NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN said, "The establishment of the NLN/Chamberlain Center in 2012 ensured there would be positive change to nursing education research for all sectors of the profession and levels of higher education. Nurse educators committed to discipline-specific pedagogy are the vital link to a future nursing workforce that will transform patient care, advancing national and global health."

2019-20 Jonas Scholars — Tenth Cohort

The NLN Jonas Scholars Program was established in 2010 through generous funding from the Jonas Philanthropies. The initiative includes a comprehensive mentoring component that engages scholars in peer-to-peer interactions, and nurtures relationships between scholars and faculty mentors.

NLN Jonas Scholars are chosen by faculty in selected schools of nursing with a focus on nursing education research and mentored by scholars in the NLN | Chamberlain Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education. Funds include financial support for the scholars' research through the final year of doctoral study, as well as travel expenses to meetings with mentors at the NLN Education Summit. NLN Jonas Scholars in previous cohorts have since graduated and joined the ranks of doctoral-prepared nurse faculty, fulfilling the grant's stated purpose to advance the science of nursing education through evidence-based research.
