Janet Reed, PhD, RN, CMSRN

Associate Professor and VR Simulation Coordinator, Kent State University 

Dr. Janet Reed has been a medical-surgical nurse and educator for over 20 years. She currently serves as an Associate Professor and virtual reality simulation coordinator at Kent State University. She leads educational initiatives that integrate immersive VR/XR, artificial intelligence, and debriefing to strengthen clinical judgment, therapeutic communication, and professional identity formation in nursing. Dr. Reed publishes and presents widely relevant topics in nursing education and professional development. Dr. Reed is passionate about using technology to improve education, design better simulations, and help mentor student researchers. She collaborates across disciplines and health-system partners to build pragmatic trials of emerging tools. She is passionate about integrating emerging technologies into college and community initiatives that promote innovation, wellbeing, and workforce readiness in healthcare. Her Ph.D. is in Curriculum & Instruction focusing on Educational Technology from Kent State University with a master’s degree in nursing education from the University of Toledo.
