| 2017 Federal Budget to Be Published on February 9 On February 9, the president’s budget for fiscal year (FY) 2017 will be released to the public. While Congress ultimately determines funding levels, the president’s budget outlines his funding priorities for the government. We learned many of these priorities during the annual State of the Union address on January 12. The president’s budget is the official first step in the budget and appropriations process. Congress will begin crafting budget proposals in February. Stay tuned for more information as the FY 2017 process moves forward.  More Cosponsors Needed for H.R. 2713 Representatives Lois Capps (D-CA) and David Joyce (R-OH) introduced H.R. 2713, the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act last year. The act reauthorizes the Title VIII nursing workforce development programs at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and also amends the advanced educating nursing (AEN) grants to include clinical nurse specialists and clinical nurse leaders in the AEN definition. H.R. 2713 ensures that Title VIII programs will continue to address the specific needs of the nursing and nurse faculty workforce as well as patients in our communities. Currently, H.R. 2713 has 55 cosponsors and we need more to move it out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. Tell your US representative to cosponsor H.R. 2713. And please pass this message on to another NLN member and share with your constituent league members. The NLN has more detailed information about the Title VIII programs as well as a list of Title VIII grants for all states in FY 2014.
