HR 728 HAS 64 COSPONSORS — IS YOUR REPRESENTATIVE ONE?

captiol connection 3The Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R. 728) reauthorizes the Nursing Workforce Development Programs at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) through fiscal year 2024. Currently H.R. 728 has 64 cosponsors (54 Democrats, 10 Republicans). The NLN supports H.R. 728 and will be working to pass this bill in the 116th Congress. Read more...


PRESIDENT RELEASES 2020 BUDGET

captiol connection 4The President's 2020 budget requests $87.1 billion for the Department of Health and Human Services. This is a 12 percent decrease from the 2019 estimated level. Unfortunately, the budget decreases funding to nursing programs at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). These HRSA programs are known as the Title VIII nursing workforce development programs and provide direct funding to nursing schools in the form of grants. The only HRSA nursing program to survive in the President's budget is the NURSE Corps Scholarship and Loan Repayment Program with $83 million for 2020. All other HRSA nursing programs would be eliminated in the President's budget. In 2019, HRSA's nursing programs received $249 million.
