ASK YOUR SENATORS TO SUPPORT S.1109

With so much at stake for the nursing pipeline from the nursing workforce shortages to cuts in nursing education, we must continue to fight for the passage of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (S.1109). This bill supports key funding for nursing workforce and education. The NLN encourages you to contact your Senator to become cosponsors of S.1109 by visiting the NLN Action Center. Read more...

HOUSE ADVANCES NURSING WORKFORCE REAUTHORIZATION BILL

The NLN is pleased to announce that on July 23, 2018, the House passed their version of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act (H.R.959) by voice vote. This bill reauthorizes the Health Resources and Services Administration's Title VIII nursing programs. These programs give grants to schools to support nurse faculty production, prepare RN's and APRN's, increase opportunities for minority students, supports retention, as well as scholarships and loans to nurses who practice in a nurse shortage area after graduation. APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE REPORTS WITH 2019 FUNDING FOR NURSING PROGRAMS

Last month, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees released reports outlining funding levels for fiscal year (FY) 2019. The House Appropriations Committee funded the Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Title VIII nursing workforce programs at $241 million (an $8 million cut below 2018). The Senate Appropriations Committee report level funded the Title VIII programs at $249 million. Please see the following chart for the breakdown of the appropriations report for 2019 for further details.
