NLN SUPPORTS OPIOID LEGISLATION — JOIN OUR CAMPAIGN


    The House of Representatives may vote on opioid legislation in the next two weeks. Support the NLN's advocacy campaign on the Addiction Treatment Access Improvement Act HR 3692/S 2317 — write your US Representative and Senators today!

Opioid use and dependence are growing public health threats, despite the many actions put in place to try to curb this crisis. APRNs are critical agents in treating patients that experience these crises, and are sometimes the sole providers of this care in regions that struggle to recruit and retain providers. Read more...

BUSY MONTH FOR OPIOID LEGISLATION IN THE HOUSE


    Last month, the House Energy and Commerce Committee held a markup and advanced 32 more bills to the House of Representatives to help combat the opioid crisis. Twenty-eight of those bills were passed by voice vote. In an Energy and Commerce Committee markup held the week of May 7th, 25 bills to combat the opioid crisis were advanced, bringing the total number of bills passed by the committee to 57 this month.     Today is primary election day in nine states. Twenty-two other states will also hold their primary elections before Labor Day. SENATE HELP COMMITTEE HOLDS HEARING ON FEDERAL NURSING PROGRAMS


    Last week, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee held a hearing entitled "The Health Care Workforce: Addressing Shortages and Improving Care" which focused on how can federal government help reduce shortages of health care in rural areas. Public witnesses testified how grants they received from the health care workforce (Title VII) and the nursing workforce (Title VIII) programs at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) helped to improve the care in their respective communities.
