NLN / Laerdal Simulation Solutions

The National League for Nursing partners with Laerdal Medical to equip nurse educators with powerful simulation solutions that prepare students for the realities of clinical practice. From virtual patient simulations to competency-based resuscitation training, these four products give educators the tools to build student confidence, sharpen clinical judgment, and close the gap between classroom learning and bedside care.

NextGen vSim for Nursing

Developed in collaboration with Laerdal Medical and Wolters Kluwer Health, NextGen vSim for Nursing gives students the opportunity to practice patient-centered care across a wide range of clinical scenarios — anytime, anywhere. NLN-authored virtual patient simulations are paired with integrated curriculum resources, helping educators reinforce learning before and after each session.

NextGen vSim for Nursing supports students in developing clinical decision-making skills through:

  • Pre- and post-simulation quizzes that reinforce key concepts and measure understanding.
  • Guided reflection questions that deepen critical thinking and connect simulation experiences to real-world practice.
  • Interactive, scenario-based learning in a safe, realistic environment that builds competence and confidence.

Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI®) for Nursing Education

Nurses are frequently the first to identify and respond to cardiac arrest — yet research shows that CPR competency among nurses is inconsistent, putting patients at risk. The NLN has partnered with Laerdal Medical and the RQI® program to bring a competency-based approach to resuscitation training into nursing education, because building strong clinical skills starts in the classroom.

RQI for Nursing Education uses low-dose, high-frequency practice to help students develop and retain the CPR skills needed to deliver high-quality care when it matters most.

vrClinicals for Nursing

Also developed in partnership with Laerdal Medical and Wolters Kluwer Health, vrClinicals for Nursing immerses students in a realistic, fast-paced hospital environment through evolving, multi-patient scenarios that mirror real-world clinical challenges. Students must prioritize care, apply clinical judgment, and make decisions under pressure — all within a low-risk learning environment that prepares them for the demands of practice.
