NEP Special Summit 2027 Issue: Call for Manuscripts

Manuscripts Accepted: December 1, 2026 – January 12, 2027

Nursing Education Perspectives is planning a special issue about the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in undergraduate and graduate nursing education for September/October 2027. The guest editors are Jennie De Gagne, PhD, DNP, RN, NPD-BC, CNE, ANEF, FAAN and Matthew Byrne, PhD, RN, CNE. 

Dr. De Gagne, a member of the Nursing Education Perspectives Editorial Board, is a professor and director of the nursing education major/certificate at the Duke University School of Nursing. Her expertise lies in advancing teaching and learning through instructional technologies that promote meaningful, student-centered experiences. Dr. Byrne, editor of the Emerging Technologies Center for Nursing Education Perspectives, is a principal product manager at the Mayo Clinic, where he helps design generative artificial intelligence technologies. Dr. Byrne has 20 years of experience as a nurse educator, teaching primarily about health care and education technologies. 

We are seeking research and innovation manuscripts that focus on AI-integrated teaching strategies and models, assessment of learning outcomes using AI, competency-based evaluations enhanced by AI, faculty development in utilizing AI for teaching, and ethical and legal issues inherent in AI applications within learning settings. Manuscripts should fit the criteria for the journal’s Feature Articles, Research Briefs, or Innovation Center.
