Health Care Simulation Standards of Best Practice
Advancing the Science of Simulation: Insights from the Updated Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice®
This webinar highlights the latest updates to the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice? (HSSOBP), informed by the INACSL Standards Committee’s recent systematic and umbrella reviews. Using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology, the committee evaluated current evidence related to key areas of simulation-based education, including Professional Integrity, Prebriefing, Facilitation, and Debriefing. The updated standards emphasize practices that consistently enhance learner safety, engagement, and performance. These include fostering a respectful and supportive learning environment, implementing structured approaches to prebriefing and debriefing, and recognizing the multifaceted responsibilities of effective facilitators. Participants will gain a clear understanding of the updated standards, evidence that supported the changes, and how these changes can strengthen simulation programs across educational and clinical settings.
- Describe the recent updates to the Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice® and new evidence that informed the changes.
- Apply insights from the updated standards to improve simulation design, facilitation, prebriefing, debriefing, and overall learner experience.
- Recognize key areas where future research is needed, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and methodological rigor within simulation-based education.
