In congratulating these outstanding individuals, NLN CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, noted, “Support for scholarship in teaching and research is critical to our goal of ‘advancing the science of nursing education.’ On behalf of the NLN, I commend them for their contributions to nursing scholarship.” This was a particularly competitive year for NLN Foundation for Nursing Education scholarships having received its highest number of applications to date. “However,” said NLN president Anne Bavier, PhD, RN, FAAN, “thanks to more generous giving, we were able to increase the number of scholarships awarded. More than $37,000 has been distributed among seven doctoral candidates in amounts ranging from just over $2,400 to $7,000. We encourage everybody with a stake in promoting excellence in nursing education to help expand the number of scholars we can support by giving to the foundation.” The NLN’s research grants program, housed in the NLN | Chamberlain Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education, supports rigorous, high-quality pedagogical research studies. “All studies relate to one or more of the NLN Research Priorities in Nursing Education, and multi-site projects are encouraged,” said Dr. Malone. Funding, which has steadily increased from an initial $12,000 to more than $80,000 annually, is provided by the NLN and through endowments and donations to the NLN Foundation for Nursing Education. The NLN Jonas Scholars Program was established in 2010 through generous funding from the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence. Chosen by faculty in schools selected by the Jonas Foundation, NLN Jonas Scholars are mentored by experienced researchers in the NLN | Chamberlain Center for the Advancement of the Science of Nursing Education. Scholars in previous cohorts have since joined the ranks of doctoral-prepared nurse faculty, fulfilling the grant’s stated purpose to advance the science of nursing education through evidence-based research. 2016 RESEARCH GRANTS Ruth Donnelly Corcoran Research Award Linda D.
