| Washington, DC — Elaine Foster, PhD, MSN, RN, dean of nursing and health care programs at American Sentinel University in Denver, Colorado, has joined the Advisory Council of the National League for Nursing Foundation for Nursing Education.
“As COVID-19 challenges our nation’s health care resources, nurses continue to be America’s most trusted health care providers. That is one reason that the work of the Advisory Council remains so critical to the mission and success of the NLN Foundation to support the programs that support the nursing workforce and faculty development,” said NLN Foundation Board of Trustees Chair, Cole Edmondson, DNP, RN, FACHE, NEA-BC, FAAN, FAONL. Dr. Edmonson, the chief clinical officer of AMN Healthcare, welcomed Dr. Foster by saying, “We are in debt to Elaine and her colleagues on the entire council for their sage wisdom, dedication and collaborative spirit.”
““As a nursing educator for nearly 40 years, I am excited to become a member of the NLN Foundation Advisory Council and look forward to working with everyone there to champion excellence in nursing education,” said Dr. Foster. “I’ve long admired the National League for Nursing as the premier organization that focusses attention on nursing education as an important way to advance health care delivery and outcomes across America’s dynamic, complex health care landscape. I look forward to working with all the people within this great organization to help champion excellence in nursing education.”
With the addition of Dr. Foster, the council now consists of 14 leaders from across the health care spectrum, encompassing academia, technology, publishing, human resources, marketing, and health economics and development. The NLN Foundation supports the League’s competitive nursing education research grants and scholarship programs, among other initiatives, that aim to promote excellence in nursing education and expand diversity in the nursing workforce, and access to opportunities within higher education for qualified applicants to nursing programs.
Established in 2016 with seven leaders in various sectors of higher education and health care, the council has been a guiding force in aligning foundation support of scholarship, research and faculty development with current priorities in nursing education and nursing practice. At the time of its creation, National League for Nursing President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FAAN, called the council one of the essential building blocks to the expansion and retention of an outstanding nursing education workforce.
“One of our reasons for establishing an Advisory Council for the foundation was to build a network of leaders who marry vital and varied perspectives with a spirit of collaboration to develop effective solutions to the challenges facing our profession,” she said. Dr. Malone sits on the council, facilitating seamless communications and understanding of mutual goals and objectives between the League and the Foundation.
