Title

Identification of the Problem
Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) prevents infections. Health care workers need to be informed of which PPE is appropriate for different types of infection transmission without using PPE for training purposes during times of scarcity.
Unique Idea
The "Pin the PPE on the Health Care Worker" game allows for education of transmission precautions without using scarce PPE. The game teaches participants how to differentiate between contact, droplet, and airborne transmission. This can be used as part of prebrief or preparation for a simulation. The game is appropriate for use in:
- Education fair in hospitals
- Skills station in skills lab
- Prop and skills for an escape room
- Competitive game between students
- Education fair for proxy care
Objectives
Participants will:
- Differentiate between contact, droplet, and airborne transmission.
- Chose the appropriate PPE for the type of infection transmission.
Supplies/Ingredients
- Trifold foam board
- Human body outline to represent a health care worker
- Hook and loop fastener, such as Velcro
- Box cutter or utility knife
- Laminating paper
- Clipart or drawing of different kinds of PPE including isolation gowns, gloves, face masks, face shields, and safety goggles
- Scissors
- Transmission precaution sign that includes information on airborne, contact, and droplet transmission
- Tape
- Unlined 4x6 index cards
Steps to Creating the Solution
- Place human body outline on the foam board with the top of the head aligned with one of the folds. Draw the outline on the foam board.
- Fold the foam board. Cut out the outline of the body through both sides of the board with a box cutter or utility knife, leaving the fold at the top of the head uncut. This will allow the figure to stand-up.
- Attach hook and loop fastener on the front side of the figure where the isolation gown, gloves, face mask, face shield, and safety goggles are to be placed.
- Draw or find images of PPE to print. Size the images to fit the figure.
- Cut out PPE images and laminate.
- Attach hook and loop fastener on the back of images.
- Tape a transmission precaution sign that addresses airborne, contact, and droplet transmission to the mid-section of figure.
- Write various pathogens and diseases on the 4x6 cards and laminate.
