Award-Winning Podcast Advances Innovation & Transformation in Nursing Education

Washington, DC – The NLN Nursing EDge Unscripted, an award-winning podcast produced by the National League for Nursing Center for Innovation in Education Excellence, has released the 150th episode, a remarkable milestone in advancing innovation and transformation in nursing education.

The celebratory 150th podcast episode, Trailblazing Innovation: Honoring 150 Episodes of Innovation in Nursing Education, features the iconic simulation educator, Suzan (Suzie) Kardong-Edgren, PhD, RN, ANEF, FSSH, FAAN, associate professor of health professions education at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston.

Dr. Kardong-Edgren brings her wealth of experience and impressive credentials to the NLN Nursing EDge Unscripted audience. She served as a consultant to a landmark National Council of State Boards of Nursing National Simulation Study that determined as much as 50% of traditional clinical instruction could be effectively replaced by high quality simulation.

Additionally, she served for 10 years as editor-in-chief of Clinical Simulation in Nursing and as vice chair of the Research Committee for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare and past president of the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation in Nursing. She holds fellowships in the Society of Simulation in Healthcare, the NLN Academy of Nursing Education, and the American Academy of Nursing.

Since its launch in 2021, NLN Nursing EDge Unscripted has offered conversations with 115 different guests — experts in navigating innovation and transformation in nursing education. Each dialogue has embraced the power of innovation to inspire and propel nurse educators along the spectrum of excellence, sparking an evolution in instruction from the routine and mundane to the exceptional in their preparation of nursing graduates.

To date, the podcast has produced nearly 50 hours of content, in both audio and video formats. The NLN Nursing EDge Unscripted has also attracted an international following, with unique visitors from 118 countries and territories who have downloaded more than 30,000 audio recordings and viewed more than 40,000 videos over the course of its five seasons.

Contributing to the podcast’s popularity, it is easy to find on streaming services like YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify. With the average length of an episode under 20 minutes, nurse educators can conveniently listen to or watch one on a break from class or tune in while commuting to or from work.

So far, 39 episodes have been spin-offs from original research first published by Nursing Education Perspectives, the National League for Nursing’s highly respected peer-reviewed scholarly journal. The most popular podcast for listeners has been Episode 13 in the current Season 5, Closing the Gap: Nurse Educators Reimagined with Amber Young-Brice and Kylateia Farrar-Stern. Other series highlights have been the release of the 100th episode during Season 3 in 2023, The Depth and Breadth of Mentorship with Susan and Dolly Bindon; and the addition in last year’s Season 4 of Drs. Kellie Bryant and Raquel Bertiz to the team of podcast hosts.

NLN Nursing EDge Unscripted has been recognized in leading national professional awards for creative communications with multiple prestigious honors, including the Platinum Award in the 2025 Hermes Creative Awards; Honorable Mention in the 2025 AVA Digital Awards; and Honorable Mention in the 2023 PR Daily Nonprofit Communications Awards.
